Friday, August 21, 2020 A workshop is planned as part of the DSMP’2020 conference:»Data Science vs. Data Privacy: restrictions, compliance challenges, solutions.» Over the last ten years, the Data Science industry has developed and grown extremely fast. Data Science specialists have received powerful tools for storing and processing huge arrays of data, scientists are developing more and more new algorithms for their processing because the main value for the data scientist is data. The more data and the greater the retrospective — the better the result and the greater the opportunities. But at the same time, users realized the value of their personal data, began to think seriously about their protection. More than one hundred countries have passed dedicated data privacy legislation over the last few years. The most significant reforms – which pretty much set the tone and standard for global data collection – were the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act, both of which passed in 2018. Failure to comply with these laws threatens companies with huge fines.During this roundtable, we will outline the limitations imposed on Data Science by existing legislation, identify the main problems that arise from these limitations, and demonstrate ways to solve them. We invite conference participants to join the discussion and share their best practices on compliance with personal data protection legislation in solving Data Science tasks.
